Rob Burn took part in the world veterans athletics championships in Brisbane, Australia and he competed in the cross country event, an 8km race over a tough three lap course.
Rob (pictured, right), 47, finished an excellent 13th in a very competitive field with a time of 29 minutes 38 seconds, earning his first national medal as the first
counter in the bronze medal winning British team.
Seven Thirsk and Sowerby members took part in the Harrogate Town Centre 10k last Sunday and the hilly course attracted over 900 runners, and first T&S runner home was Stephan Tomaszewski in 134th position, in a time of 39.35 minutes. Maureen Gibb was in 474th position in a time of 47.46 minutes, and was 1st runner in the over 50 lady vets category. Pat Kirby ran a time of 50.45, Catherine Lumb finished in a time of 53.18 min, Karen Hudson took 54.07 minutes, Pamela Sherlock took 66.32 minutes and Marian Codling 68.49 minutes.
The last two runners were each 4th home in their age groups.
