EXCITING ice hockey prospect Michael Allinson is celebrating after being called-up by his country.
The 14-year-old will travel to Canada in December where he will be representing England.
Michael, who plays for Sunderland teams the Arrows and Tomahawks, impressed selectors while playing for the Northern Conference side.
And mum Elaine said: "It is brilliant news for him and us. He deserves it.
"I don't think it has sunk in just yet for Mickey because it means that Christmas will have to be put on hold. We fly out on Boxing Day.
"But it is really good news for him to be called up by his country."
Elaine and Michael are the only two family members booked on the plane for Canada at the moment, but that could change nearer the time.
Tournament details are yet to be published, but what is definite is that Michael will be gaining a few England Under-16 caps.
Originally, the Monkwearmouth Comprehensive school pupil was named among a select few to go for trials to represent the region at Humberside.
After being selected for the Northern Conference, Michael was chosen to go for a couple of days' training with the England boys.
And now, after getting his wish of playing for his country, he is eager to just keep developing into a real star on the rink.
"Mickey first started to go when he was six," said Elaine. "He used to go along with his older brother Richard 21.
"And as he has grown older he was always keen to get into the centre and play; he wasn't too keen on training though."
That has now changed and he had to undergo rigorous sessions when he was impressing selectors.
And he is just looking forward to joining up with the squad in the future.
l Michael is looking for funding for the trip and if anyone is interested in sponsoring the bright prospect then contact his mum on (0191) 5489689.
