FIFTY racing stables built at Tall Trees stud, Sessay, have to be demolished, a council has ruled.
Hambleton District Council will seek an enforcement notice demanding that owner, Mr D Nicholls, remove the stables erected without planning permission.
The stables already has 27 units on the site and the extra 50 bring the total to 77, far too much intensification of the use of the site, said planners at yesterday's meeting.
The site occupies an isolated rural location and the extra stables have brought about a substantial change in the nature and character of the business on the site.
Highway officials have also objected on traffic and access grounds and say that a further substantial increase in traffic would be detrimental to users of the public right of way.
The committee voted to follow planning officers' advice and refused the retrospective planning application and gave the officers power to seek an enforcement order.
