THE first Streets Alive festival is being held in Newcastle this weekend.
Shoppers and tourists in Grainger Town will be mingling with The Invisible Men, jugglers, live bands and stilt walkers during the free festival, which will take place today and tomorrow.
In addition to the festival, a Formula One Jaguar will be on display in Grey Street. The car, which can reach speeds of 200 mph is identical to the one driven by Eddie Irvine.
Grainger Town is one of the key backers in Newcastle and Gateshead's bid to become the European City of Culture in 2008.
Bill Midgley, vice-chairman of the Grainger Town Partnership, said: "We're thrilled to have attracted such a high calibre of acts to perform here in Grainger Town and the great thing is that the whole event is free and can be easily accessed by everyone who uses the city centre."
