VOLUNTEERS have been getting their hands dirty cleaning up a North-East heritage site.
Durham Cathedral is one of several around the country hosting young people on a working holiday as part of the Cathedral Camps project.
The volunteers are spending a week helping to clean and conserve the 900-year-old building.
Under the direction of the dean and chapter's clerk of works, and other experts, they are working in areas inside and outside the cathedral.
Some of the volunteers are taking part as participants in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
At the end of the day they return to their lodgings at Durham School, where they can enjoy the social side of the camp
