MANUFACTURING firm Deepdale Solutions has opened its doors to new opportunities thanks to training with the North-East Chamber of Commerce.

The Thirsk company manufactures and installs aluminium curtain walling, doors and windows for the construction industry and is supporting seven members of staff through workplace training in performing manufacturing operations.

It employs 17 people and sells 90 per cent of its products outside of the region, particularly to companies in London.

Production manager Les Pearson organised the NVQ courses through the chamber's training centre in Northallerton.

He said: "The company is made up of design, manufacturing and installation departments.

"Training for the manufacturing unit has ensured that the quality of products and working practices meet a high standard and we hope to encourage other members of staff to formalise their skills in different areas in due course.

"As a member of the chamber we have taken advantage of the excellent training facilities on offer and employees have completed their assessments in the workplace."

Staff at the firm's manufacturing unit have trained in key skills, health and safety and assembly using a variety of machinery and were assessed on quality checks, building, inspection and machining.

John Hills, North-East Chamber of Commerce training centre manager in Northallerton, said: "NVQ qualifications are an excellent way of formalising and building upon valuable practical skills in the workplace.

"We offer a range of training to companies that will benefit both employees and employers and it is encouraging to see organisations like Deepdale Solutions supporting their staff in this way."

The North East Chamber of Commerce has training centres in Newcastle, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Northallerton, Darlington, Middlesbrough and Redcar.
