A TEESSIDE carnival has been swamped with entries for its showjumping contest following the cancellation of agricultural shows due to foot-and-mouth disease.
The Summer Carnival in Preston Park will be held on bank holiday weekend at the end of August and has received so many showjumping entries that the horse events may have to start on the Friday.
The foot-and-mouth crisis sparked the cancellation of agricultural and horse events nationwide, but the carnival will be unaffected.
As well as the equestrian events, there will be a fun fair, live music, stands and side shows.
Admission is £1.50 or £1 for concessions. Parking is free.
Traders, charity groups or craft stall holders wanting to book a space should phone Carol Croft on (01642) 358542.
