ONE of the region's most popular attractions has won the praise of a team of Government inspectors.
FlamingoLand zoo, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, was given the plaudits as it was granted a new six-year licence following its official inspection.
Members of Ryedale's licensing committee were told that the inspectors had commended the "very positive" approach of the zoo's management.
In particular, they singled out the overall zoo strategy which, the inspectors said, would contribute significantly to the welfare of the animals and improve public perception generally.
New government standards on zoos stipulate that they have to contribute to the education of visitors.
The inspectors said in their report: "The displays provide a wealth of information about the lives and habitats of animals and are well supported by realistic modelling and backdrops."
