POLICE last night renewed a witness appeal a week after a hit-and-run incident left an elderly man badly injured.
William Brown, 72, was struck by a car while crossing Ashdown Road, in Farringdon, Sunderland, on Sunday, August 5.
He suffered two broken legs, a collapsed lung and broken ribs in the accident and is still recovering in Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Mr Brown was returning to his home in nearby Appleby Road after a quick visit to Farringdon Social Club, when the incident took place shortly after 10pm.
Police believe the vehicle involved, which failed to stop, may have been a red Ford Escort with a rear spoiler. A spokesman said the front of the car would have been damaged, including a smashed headlight.
Anyone with information should call the motor patrols section, on 0191-454 7555, ext 6639.
