AN Australian tourist and two mountain bike competitors have all had their mountain bikes stolen in a spate of thefts.
The wave of bicycle thefts in Spennymoor has prompted police to warn people to keep their cycles locked in sheds and garages.
Over the weekend, an Australian tourist had a Trek mountain bike stolen from the back of a camper van parked in Durham Road, and last week, two dual slalom mountain bikes, worth £1,500 each, were stolen from a garage at a house in Dunelm Court. The bicycles were used for downhill racing competitions.
Over Sunday and Monday night, a blue and yellow Apollo mountain bike was taken from the backyard of a home on Middlestone Moor.
A spokesman for Newton Aycliffe Police said: "We would urge people to generally make sure their bikes are being put away at night time."
If anyone has any information on the thefts, they are urged to contact Newton Aycliffe Police station on (01325) 314401.
