PLANS to regenerate a run-down estate have received a cash boost.
Residents on Middlesbrough's Easterside council estate have received a £150,000 National Lottery award towards giving the area a facelift.
They want to give the estate a new look, with environmental improvements, develop community activities and set up initiatives to tackle crime and offer training opportunities and advice.
The award has been made to the Easterside Partnership made up of residents, local businesses and Middlesbrough Borough Council.
People on the estate celebrated receiving the award by holding a fun day yesterday.
Residents' spokeswoman June Goodchild said: "This is a dream I've had for years."
Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said: "I am really pleased that the Easterside Partnership have struck gold with the Lottery.
"The residents' group is an active campaigning group and I know they are dedicated to making Easterside a better place to live and bring up youngsters.
"They bring an air of optimism to the estate, which should be a model to others."
