The latest venture by Bishop Auckland rugby club has been to set up a football team which made its debut in the Crook and District League last Saturday with a 10-0 victory away to Tow Law Cattle Mart FC, another new club.
John Paul Collinson led the way with four goals, David Foggin got two and there was one apiece from Matthew Tyrie, James Banks, Paul Land and Lee Clements. Goalkeeper Paul Cook produced a number of fine saves to keep a clean sheet.
Midfielder Michael Barker controlled the midfield and provided much of the inspiration for the team, earning him the man of the match award.
Football team manager Dave Summerbell would welcome prospective players at West Mills for the Wednesday training sessions (7pm).
The rugby club start their programme in the Durham and Northumberland third division on Saturday September 8 with a trip to Yarm. The second XV are at home to Acklam Talbots on Saturday September 1 in the Tees Valley Social League.
