TENANTS in Redcar and Cleveland are being urged not to forget to vote to decide the future of their homes.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is proposing to transfer the ownership and management of the 12,000 council houses across the borough to a new not-for-profit company, called Coast and Country Housing.
The company would be able to access funds for essential repair work that is not available to the local authority.
Following an extensive public consultation exercise, tenants have been issued with a secret postal vote to decide whether to go ahead with the scheme. If the tenants vote against the new company, the houses will remain under the control of the council.
The deadline for the postal vote is midday next Wednesday. The council's director of housing, Iain Sim said: "This is the most important decision tenants will make. Every vote counts.
