FIREFIGHTERS have helped two youngsters get a step closer to taking the holiday of a lifetime.
The family of Kyle and Amy Jameson, from Bishop Auckland, are hoping to take the two youngsters, who suffer from muscular dystrophy, to Disneyland in Florida.
When firefighters in Bishop Auckland heard about the children's dream they decided to help by holding a fundraising open day in June.
The money raised from the event has been equally divided between the youngsters' fund and the Firefighters Benevolent Fund.
Recently a cheque for £777.66 was presented to Kyle, six, Amy, five, and their parents Joanne Hopper, 24, and Darren Jameson, 26.
Health permitting, it is hoped the family will travel to the US next year, so that Kyle and Amy can meet some of their favourite Disney characters.
Ms Hopper said she was grateful for the efforts of Bishop Auckland Fire Station.
"They have all worked so hard. I would like to say thank you to everybody. It is very appreciated," she said.
Firefighter Paul Frame, from the station, thanked everyone who supported the event and made it such a success.
"They have given very generously - beyond our expectations - and they can rest assured their money has gone to an excellent cause," he said.
