ALTERATIONS could be made to sea defences in an east Cleveland village following a long-running campaign by local people.
Since the defences were completed in Skinningrove in 1991, several problems have emerged, which local people say were never properly resolved.
Their complaints included parts of the rock armour being washed away, a build-up of seaweed which made life difficult for anglers and the unsightly appearance of the sea defences.
A meeting took place recently between villagers, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and consultants Mouchel.
Skinningrove resident Tom Evans said the whole area was an eyesore, but he felt progress was being made.
"Unless something is done, the likelihood is we will be flooded from the sea, which is the last thing this village needs.
"The residents are concerned that the sea defences offer no protection whatsoever. We would like a few alterations making and we pinpointed what those were.
"We are waiting for feedback from Redcar and Cleveland council, but we all came away from the meeting feeling quite positive and as though something may well be done, which is very good news for the village."
