A DOUBLE-edged warning for residents and burglars is being issued.
Stickers carrying a two-way message are being distributed at libraries throughout Redcar and Cleveland.
Designed to be displayed on front doors, they warn callers: "We don't buy or sell at this door. We require identification we can verify."
Inside the door is the second part of the message aimed at householders: "Stop. Is the chain on? Who is that person? Identification is required."
Doug Butterfield, chairman of the Langbaurgh Crime Prevention Panel, said: "I am sure these warning stickers will be helpful to the majority of householders. The message is clearly visible to the caller that the resident of that house will not purchase goods on the doorstep and it reminds people to be sure of the caller's identity before allowing entry."
