A TWO-day convoy of cement mixers has been streaming in and out of the building site of Darlington FC's new stadium as work continues at a rapid pace on the £20m development.
Throughout Wednesday and yesterday, about 200 mixers arrived, carrying the cement for the concourse floors of the 25,000-seat stadium.
Only hindered slightly by the repeated spells of torrential rain, the work, which is being carried out by County Durham firm Hall Construction, continues to run ahead of schedule.
The steel frame is complete and receiving its final coating of paint, while the final steps are being placed on the terrace concrete. Above the concourse, the first and second floors are already complete.
Seeding of the pitch is due to begin on Monday, August 27, with the under-soil heating system and the ground soil itself already well advanced.
Elsewhere on the Neasham Road ground, installation of the roof is 70 per cent complete and progressing well, while the feature curtain wall, forming the main entrance, is well progressed.
The walls around the 189 toilets will follow the laying of the concrete, and work to form the 1,475 car parking spaces will start in the next week, once more changing the appearance of the stadium.
Inside the ground, the internal fit-out is due to start in the next week, also.
This will begin with the construction of the walls forming the executive boxes.
