Crook Ladies League
Crook Cricket Club crashed to their first defeat of the season in disastrous style for they failed to take a point from their visit to the reigning champions, Crook Coach and Horses. This big win took the Coach ten points clear at the top from Crook Queen's Head, who are four points ahead of Crook Travellers Rest. The cricketers defeat took them down to eighth place in the table.
Crook Queen's Head went down to their second consecutive defeat when the visiting Victoria Club won by the odd point. The Queen's only managed to take one singles with the visitors reaching the vital sixth point by taking one doubles. The Queen's recovered to take two doubles and the Team game.
The leading individual scorers were Gail Abbott 140 and Margaret Stewart 133 for the Coach and Horses, Norma Parkin 140 and 121 and Rose Clement 120 for the Queen's Head, Joan Baker 125 for the New Market B, Margaret Wilson 121 for the Station, Susan Humble 121 for the New Market A and Ann Varley 121 for the Travellers Rest.

Newhouse Club moved up to share second place with their hosts at Hamilton Row Black Horse following their five points victory. The visitors took both trebles points and then had singles wins from Brian Jones, Dave Thornton, Tom McQuillan, Brian Atkin and Keith Liddle, whilst the only winner for the Black Horse was Steve Wilkie. However after dropping the first doubles, the home side came back to take the last two.
Esh Stag's Head moved eight points ahead of Hamilton Row and Newhouse after they only dropped one point at Cornsay Royal Oak, who had Ian Truby and Terry Cairns take a doubles point.
Esh Football Club are just two points adrift of the joint second placed teams.
The only maximum of the week came from K. Brown of Esh Football Club and he added 138 and a 146 double included start. The other leading scorers were D. Metcalfe 140 for the Stag's Head, A. Armstrong and D. Bruce 140 each for the Rose and Crown, R. Wright two 140s and J. Peacock 140 for the Comedian, G. Hope 140 for the Station and C. Tomlinson a 146 start for Hamilton Row.

The holders, Jeff Sneath and Paul Knighton of Crook Belle Vue repeated their victory when they came out on top of the 22 pairs entry in the annual tournament held at Cockton Hill.
There was double trouble for all the players in action, although the general scoring was of a good high standard. In the semi-finals Sneath and Knighton beat their teammates from Crook Belle Vue, Dougie McCarthy and Barry Lauder 3-0, whilst the other semi-final went to the Cockton Hill pairing of Tommy Ward and Robin Douthwaite beat Gary Taylor and Phil Mnixon of Ferryhill 3-1.
In the final Sneath and Knighton beat Ward and Douthwaite 3-0.
During the competition Douthwaite hit a maximum, whilst Ward made the best check-out with a 155 finish.
