Middlesbrough crashed to a 4-0 home defeat to Arsenal to give new coach Steve McClaren the worst possible start.
Thierry Henry gave the Londoners the lead just before the break but they had Ray Parlour sent off on 55 minutes - the first Premiership red card of the season.
In a frantic last five minutes, Robert Pires doubled Arsenal's lead from the penalty spot, Boro's Ugo Ehiogu was sent off, and Dennis Bergkamp hit a late brace.
