A BODY has been recovered from a river more than a week after a man went missing after boats collided.
The missing man was one of three who fled from police by jumping into an inflatable boat, which collided with a Royal Naval Reserve training vessel on the Tyne, on Thursday, August 9.
Northumbria Police said the three men leapt into the 16ft rigid inflatable dinghy after officers were called to reports of trouble at a quayside pub, near the new Millennium Bridge, Newcastle.
The dinghy capsized after colliding with an 18ft boat carrying three naval cadets and two instructors from the nearby Royal Naval Reserve HMS Calliope.
Two of the men were rescued and taken to hospital.
Police searched the area for the missing man, thought to be in his 30s. A body was pulled from the river near the city's crown court on Saturday.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said it would be today at the earliest before the body could be identified.
