A 30-year-old electrician charged with the murder of a woman whose body was found by police in the bedroom of her parents' home was today remanded in custody.
Anthony Hilton, of Sparrowhall Drive, Whinfield, Darlington, Co Durham, today appeared at Sedgefield Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of 27-year-old Nicola Gina Impett.
Her body was discovered by police on Friday at her parents' home in Winchester Way, Darlington.
Hilton was remanded in custody until August 28 when he is due to appear before Teesside Crown Court for a plea and directions hearing.
Nicola's parents, who were on holiday in Wales, travelled back to identify her body late on Friday night.
Detective Superintendent Tom Ryan, who is leading the investigation, said that Nicola had received multiple stab wounds.
He said that it was clear from the examination of the scene that she had tried to fight off her attacker.
On Saturday, police cordoned off The Northern Echo offices, in Priestgate, Darlington, where Mr Hilton works as an electrician, while they searched the roof.
Police are now trying to piece together Nicola's movements before her death. Anyone who can help should contact the incident room on (01325) 467681.
