A COMMUNITY has displayed the wealth of its artistic talent by taking up an invitation to help create a sculptural landmark.
Tow Law's special community art project has helped to transform the entrance to the town's Millennium Green.
Town councillor Jenny Flynn said the project, led by Teesdale artist Phil Townsend, had been a huge success.
She said: "It has been a nice project to do. We were worried about how many volunteers we were going to get, but we got 19 people on the first day.''
Youngsters from the age of five joined pensioners in their sixties to carve items that meant something to them into stones which are now lined on either side of the entrance to the Millennium Green.
Children's cartoon favourite Pokemon lays side by side with a sheep's head, a Celtic cross and a heart.
Carol Watson was one volunteer who took part in the sessions at the town's football stadium.
She said: "I went along as adult supervision and got carried away.''
The main sculpture created by Mr Townsend stands at the entrance to the green featuring a miner looking towards the light. It celebrates the town's industrial roots.
Mr Townsend said: "People of all ages in the community have taken part. I am particularly pleased when I see the mams and dads having a go because it encourages the kids as well. I hope the community takes pride in what it has achieved.''
