THREE people died in separate accidents in a day of carnage on North Yorkshire's roads.
Last night, police were still trying to contact relatives of two of the victims before publicly identifying them.
One man died and his wife and two children were seriously injured in a head-on crash on the A64, at East Heslerton, near Malton, at about 3.45pm on Sunday.
About 45 minutes later another driver was killed in a head-on crash near Richmond.
A third man, Richard Connell, 44, from Allerton Bywater, near Leeds, died when his motorbike crashed near Sherburn-in-Elmet at about 5.30pm.
The family involved in the first crash are believed to have been from the Castleford area. Their Cavalier was in collision with a BMW.
The dead driver's wife and seven-year-old son were taken to Scarborough General Hospital where yesterday they were poorly but stable.
The 11-year-old daughter was in a similar condition at Hull Royal Infirmary.
BMW driver Lisa Burdett, an 18-year-old from Malton, and her passenger, Brian Jenkinson, 25, from Scarborough, both suffered minor injuries.
The Richmond crash took place at about 4.30pm on the A6108 to Leyburn, at the junction for Bellerby.
A Toyota Celica, heading from Leyburn, was in collision with a VW Gold travelling in the opposite direction and the Volkswagen driver was killed.
A pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a van in Clifton Moorgate, York, last Friday, has been named as 40-year-old Roderick Kean, from Ilkley.
