A TAXI driver has been ordered to remove display signs from his vehicle by council officials.
George Jenkinson and his partner, Michelle, have been warned by Darlington Borough Council that they are breaching the conditions of their Hackney Carriage licence.
The pair both operate taxis in the town which display signs on the front and back informing the public that their vehicles are five-seater cabs.
Darlington council says the signs are not permitted under its regulations and must be removed.
Mr Jenkinson says if he removes the signs he will lose business from group fares who might not realise the cabs are five-seaters.
He has previously clashed with council officials over the use of the word Darlington on his roof sign. Earlier this year he was ordered to remove a campaign poster for Conservative candidate Tony Richmond during the General Election.
Said Mr Jenkinson: "This is just nit picking."
A council spokesman said Mr Jenkinson could make a request in writing stating a case for the signs which would be considered by the council.
