LONDON Electricity is celebrating the appointment of its 1,000th recruit, after its latest recruitment phase added 75 jobs.
The company has now more than doubled the 450 jobs it planned to create when it moved to the Doxford International Business Park, Sunderland, in 1995.
London Electricity moved its customer operations to Doxford to provide services such as bill handling, metering, customer records and accounts to customers across the UK.
After four weeks of intensive training, the recruits will join the customer services team.
John Davies, customer services manager, said: "We're delighted to announce that we have created more than 1,000 jobs since moving here in 1995.
"The fact that we have gone on to surpass our original projections long term indicates both our satisfaction with the workforce of Sunderland and our commitment to the local area."
London Electricity contributes more than £20m to the economy of the North-East each year.
