MORE than 130 children took part in a mini-olympics at a fun day organised by six child care groups yesterday.
The event, for four to 14-year-olds at Carmel RC Technology College in Darlington, involved a variety of activities in which youngsters competed for points for their childcare club.
The overall winner was Skerne Park Childcare Centre, with the Funzone second and DFES third.
Debbi Moore, of The Funzone and The Funtime Club, who organised the event, said: "I was very pleased with the turn-out."
As well as prizes for winning races and competitions, youngsters from each of the child care groups were awarded child of the day trophies.
Autumn Robson, eight, won the award for Skerne Park Child Care Centre; Ian Taylor, seven, won it for The Funtime Club; Alex Burnside Hughes, seven, for the Funzone at Polam Hall; James Chalton, six, for Activfun; and Victoria Heslop for Northlands Kids' Club.
There was also a drawing competition organised by Darlington Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships, for youngsters to describe their favourite carer and draw a picture of them.
Arifa Akbar, women's editor of The Northern Echo, picked the winning entry by Scott Iveson, 12, which features Mark Mitchell.
Scott said Mark was funny, played games and stuck up for him. He won a £10 gift voucher given by Woolworths.
Runners-up Lorna Brown, eight, and Charlotte Taylor, nine, won T-shirts.
