GEORDIES will be able to raise a glass to region's latest landmark with an ale which was brewed for the first time yesterday.
Fermentation of the ale made to celebrate the £22m Millennium Bridge began at the Mordue Brewery in North Shields. The beer will be available before the bridge finally opens to the public next month.
The privilege of adding the hops, which will give the ale a distinctive flavour, went to Councillor Mick Henry, deputy leader of Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.
A limited supply of the bottled beer, in presentation packs, will also be available from Wednesday, September 12. The bridge is due to open on Monday, September 17.
