POLICE are appealing for homes for three puppies who have just seven days to live.
The dogs, thought to be a German Shepherd cross, are less than eight weeks old and were handed in at Crook police station yesterday, by someone who found them dumped in a bus shelter on the town's Watergate estate.
The police do not have the facilities to look after the animals and handed them over to Deerness Kennels, near Durham City, where they will be destroyed after seven days if no home is found for them.
A spokeswoman at the police station is appealing to people to provide a homes for the animals.
She said: "It would be a shame if they went through the motions and were put down. They are very cute and obviously very bewildered because they are huddled up together in the corner of a big cage and won't move.
"I think someone must have thought they couldn't be doing with the hassle and so just dumped them."
If you can give a home to the animals, contact the kennels on 0191-378 0439.
