Spennymoor United's chances of a quick return to the UniBond League premier division after being relegated last season have been boosted by the league's decision to adopt a play-off promotion and relegation system - the first senior semi-professional league to do so.

The top two clubs in the first division will swap places with the bottom two premier sides, as happens already, but in addition to that the third bottom premier club will play off with the third, fourth and fifth placed first division sides.

The only proviso is that the clubs involved must satisfy premier division ground criteria. As with other play-off systems, there will now be much more to play for in the closing stages of the season.

Two second half goals gave Spennymoor their second win of the season in the Unibond League Premier Division against Guiseley on Tuesday night.

Moor's new signing, ex-Hartlepool player Chris Lynch showed some good early touches and from one of his passes Andrew Banks almost scored with a left foot shot.

Moors went close twice more before the broke through after 65 minutes when Guiseley keeper Tom Morgan could only punch an in-swinging corner from Andrew Banks to the right foot of Leigh Grant who blasted the ball in.

They went two up 77 minutes when Jarrod Suddick headed in from another Banks' cross, then substitute Andy Wilkinson grabbed the goal of the game in the dying minutes with a 30-yard left foot shot into the roof of the net.
