A Stokesley car dealer has said thieves have repeatedly broken into his garage and stolen Land Rover parts to order - costing his business £15,000 this year.

Mr Paul Hughlock, who owns PVH Land Rover at Stokesley industrial estate, contacted the police and the D&S Times, after his business was hit for the fourth time in five months by intruders.

In the last month alone, he has lost £3,000 worth of Land Rover Discovery parts, due to what he believes is specialist theft.

"Somebody has cut through the fence and stolen a full set of wheels from a blue S-registered Discovery. On the other side of the premises, the bonnet, wings and headlights have been unbolted and removed from a green M-registered Discovery. The full front of the vehicle has gone.

"Whoever is responsible is stealing to order and taking exactly what they want. They do not take anything else, like radios for example. There is no vandalism and the vehicles are left with their fuel."

Mr Hughlock, who lives in Guisborough, said the latest theft was filmed on closed circuit television, adding: "You can see a man wearing a balaclava and gloves, going about his work in the dark."

He has been trading at Ellerbeck Court on the industrial estate since 1999, where he employs five staff. He has operated in Stokesley for seven years and has been self employed since leaving school in 1981.

On the thefts, he said: "This year has been the worst year I have ever had. I have had the police and the forensic squad up here to have a look. Whoever broke in here must have spent a coupe of hours taking the vehicles apart.

He said a perimeter fence had been strengthened and a new alarm system installed. "Land Rovers and Discoveries have become very fashionable. We normally have about 50 vehicles in at any time. There is a good demand for them."

He appealed to local people, particularly those who own Land Rover, to keep their eyes open.
