A BMX rider from the region performed a difficult trick to take gold at an international competition.
Stephen Murray, 21, of Tynemouth, was competing in the Xtreme Games, in Pennsylvania, US, when he performed a double backflip on his bike.
It was the first time the move had been performed in the competition and, along with the rest of his ride, it guaranteed Mr Murray the gold medal in the Xtreme Games dirt-riding competition.
He won a total of $45,000 for his first place, beating riders from all over the world.
