AN investigation will continue today into how a man fell 70ft to his death from the window of a town centre flat.
The 31-year-old died instantly after plunging from a third-floor flat at the top of the former Talbot Hotel, Queen Street, Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
The discovery was made just before 1.30am on Saturday. Detectives said they were treating the death as suspicious.
A 32-year-old local woman was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail.
The man is understood to have lived in the resort, but was originally from Kent. Pol-ice said they would not release any details about his identity until all relatives in the South had been informed.
He was found dead at the rear of the hotel, a former coaching inn which has just undergone a major redevelopment and is now a luxury complex of 17 flats and offices.
Andy Park, head doorman at Boleyn's nightclub, St Thomas Street, close to where the body was found, was one of the first on the scene.
He said: "Myself and a colleague were standing at the door when a woman came round shouting at us to call an ambulance.
"We ran around as we are both first aiders and found the man laid on the ground. We checked for a pulse, but there wasn't one."
A Home Office pathologist was called in to carry out a post-mortem examination. The results are expected to be known today. Toxicology reports should also be made available.
The scene was cordoned off and searched thoroughly over the weekend and police have made house-to-house inquir-ies in the area.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said there were several people in the area at the time who could hold vital information. He added that a courting couple who were the subject of a police appeal had come forward.
North Yorkshire East coroner Michael Oakley is likely to open an inquest this week
