RESIDENTS turned out in force to pay tribute to a teenager who died after he suffered a heart attack when playing football with friends.
Just hours before his death, Anthony Wilkinson, 15, had received news of an operation on his leaky heart valve.
Anthony, from Grangetown, Middlesbrough, died despite the frantic efforts of onlookers to revive him.
He had helped to plan the Musical Picnic in the Park, which took place in Grangetown yesterday.
It was turned into a tribute for him, after his parents, Sharon and Michael, gave the event their blessing.
Residents turned out in the sunshine to watch displays including karaoke and a local jazz band.
Flowers left on the pitch where Anthony died were cordoned off during the concert, attended by many of his family and friends.
Dawn Wilkinson, his aunt, said: "The concert was a nice tribute."
More than 2,000 people attended last year's event and it was hoped this year's would be even bigger.
Les Earl, of the park management committee, said: "We wanted it to be bigger and better than last year and everything is pointing that it was."
