A TRIBUTE to the Royal Navy's submariners has been created at Spennymoor's Jubilee Park.
Spennymoor Town Council groundsmen Ralph Curry and Stephen Hymer have been working hard over the last few weeks creating a flowerbed to mark 100 years of the submarine service.
The floral motif was creating in response to a request from Spennymoor and Ferryhill branch of the Royal Naval Association. An extra flower bed was created, featuring the association's logo.
The flower bed had been vandalised hours after it was finished, but the gardeners managed to repair it in time for the unveiling ceremony.
Submarine Lieutenant George Bressin, from the Newcastle recruitment office, attended the opening ceremony, with Spennymoor Town Mayor Russell Ferguson.
Elizabeth Lewarne, from Spennymoor, who is a member of the local naval branch, said: "We would really like to thank the groundsmen for all their hard work."
