VISITORS are to be given a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most historic buildings in Darlington.
Darlington Borough Council has joined forces with the Civic Trust to organise a weekend of Heritage Open Days in the area next month.
Seventeen properties in the Darlington area will be opening their doors to the public, free of charge, between Friday, September 7, and Monday, September 10.
The buildings include Grange Road Baptist Church, Darlington Crematorium and Walworth Castle.
Two guided walk tours have also been organised as part of the weekend.
One will take visitors around Darlington town centre to see the historic buildings.
The other, more light-hearted walkabout, will take in the historic pubs of the town.
Organisers have also arranged two heritage bus tours and an historic churches bus tour as part of the event.
The tours and entrance to all the properties is free, to encourage more people to visit the places of interest.
However, some of the properties can only be visited as part of timed guided tours.
The details of the tours are available from the Tourist Information Office on (01325) 388666, or e-mail ticre, at 7pm.
