A Residents' Participation Compact is being developed for the Skerne Park estate, in Darlington, so people can have a say in the running of their area.

Similar schemes have already been set up in the Branksome and Cockerton areas of the town.

The compacts allow residents to get involved in the decision-making process so they can influence developments in their area.

Through negotiation and consultation, residents can make Darlington Borough Council and other service providers aware of their aspirations and needs .

A spokesman for the Resident Participation Compacts said: "Each individual is able to decide how much and in what they want to get involved."

The process is open to all residents on Skerne Park and Parkside, including owner-occupiers, housing association tenants, private rented and council tenants.

Monthly meetings will be held on the estate from September at the Skerne Park Community Centre.

The first meetings will be on Wednesday, September 5, from 7pm to 8pm, and Tuesday, September 11, from 1pm to 2.30pm.
