THE Forestry Commission is offering drivers the chance to enjoy being behind the wheel in rugged terrain.
An auto expedition is being staged through Kielder Forest, Northumberland, next month.
Owners of four-wheel-drive vehicles are invited to join the drive, which will venture into the heart of the 155,000-acre forest on 550 miles of logging trails which are usually off-limits to motorists.
Recreation ranger Pippa Kirkham said: "Since we started this event a couple of years ago, it has proved amazingly popular with people jumping at the chance to see some real mud and action.
"But we'll also be pulling over the regular intervals to revel in the peace and quiet of the spectacular Borders countryside, and keeping an eye open for wildlife like deer and birds of prey."
To take part, drivers must have a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The cost of the event, on Saturday, September 22, is £20 a car and places must be booked on (01434) 250209.
