DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault at a petrol station in County Durham earlier this month have made an arrest.
The victim, a 49-year-old man, had to undergo plastic surgery at Newcastle RVI after receiving treatment for head wounds at the University Hospital, in Durham City.
The attack happened at the Red Tiles petrol station, at Caysburn, near Langley Park, County Durham on Saturday, August 12.
A 19-year-old man from Burnhope, near Stanley, has been arrested after voluntarily turning up to Consett police station. He was due to be questioned yesterday evening.
Detective Inspector Simon Orton said he was still hoping to trace two potential witnesses, the driver and front seat passenger of a red Vauxhall Corsa. The driver was in his fifties and was wearing a light-coloured long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He was clean shaven and had sandy or grey hair. His female passenger wore a red top and white trousers. Police want to speak to the couple purely as witnesses.
Call Consett CID on (01207) 504204.
