Safety measures are being carried out on a South Bank road where a youngster was knocked down and hurt earlier this summer.
Eight-year-old Hennry Marriott suffered severe head injuries when he was struck by a motorcycle in Cromwell Road, in May. Now, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has spent £1,000 on a series of measures on a 150metre stretch of the road between King Street and Victoria Street, which were completed yesterday.
Resident Robbie Watson took a petition to the council signed by local people demanding action as a result of Hennry's accident.
The work includes three sets of road humps, which are slightly smaller than traditional road humps following consultation with local people. Councillor Sylvia Szintai, who represents South Bank and is also lead member for environment and infrastructure with Redcar and Cleveland council, said: "Everyone in the area was deeply shocked at the terrible accident and we're all pleased that Hennry is making a good recovery.
"The reaction of the residents after the accident was perfectly understandable and I am pleased at how the council has responded, taking residents' views and finding a suitable scheme.
"We can only hope it helps prevent another accident like this."
Youngsters at Cromwell Road School, in South Bank, will start cycling training next month, organised by the council's road safety officers.
