POLICE are asking for help from the public to trace a replica medieval sword, which has been stolen.
The sword belonged to a member of the Rosamundis group, which was taking part in a re-enactment of a medieval battle at the Kirkleatham Old Hall Museum, in Redcar, over the Bank Holiday weekend. One of the group noticed the sword had been taken during a display on Sunday afternoon.
The falchion sword, with burgundy scabbard, was made by White Rose Armouries and has the manufacturer's name on the blade. One of the most famous falchion swords is housed in Durham Cathedral and belonged to Sir John Conyers, who according to legend, used it to slay the Sockburn Worm which terrorised communities living around the River Tees near the village of Neasham in the Middle Ages.
It is presented to every new Bishop of Durham when he crosses the river Tees into Durham for the first time.
Anyone with information about the sword is asked to call Cleveland Police on (01642) 326326
