MUSICIANS will have the chance to train as teachers with the relaunch of a college course.
Following the success of the instrumental facilitator course at Middlesbrough College when it was run three years ago, it is being repeated from October.
Lasting for 30 weeks, the course is fully funded and free to most musicians. It contains a variety of workshops, lectures and classroom training, and offers an insight into the teaching profession.
Many of the musicians who completed the last course went on to gain positions at Middlesbrough College and local schools, and the qualification can also be used to gain a place at university.
Course tutor Steve Hoggart, from the Amazing Space Frogs, had been a drummer for 15 years before he enrolled.
He said: "I found the course a brilliant springboard into a career that I never expected to enjoy so much. It was a really good chance to find out what teaching is like and a real revelation to discover how rewarding it can be.
"I've been in full-time work ever since."
While experience and a passion for music are required, applicants do not need to be able to read or write music.
