THE artistic talents of youngsters in Derwentside have been harnessed over the summer.
And it is all down to the Phoenix Festival, organised by the Busy Ape arts group for youngsters during the school holidays.
For two weeks, youngsters aged between 11 and 19 have been working at the Phoenix Arts Centre, in Harelaw, near Annfield Plain, in a number of art disciplines ranging from drama to visual arts.
More than 30 participants from across the district have been encouraged to let their minds wander on the subjects of rebirth and regeneration and translate it into an art form. Now an interactive, multi-sensory exhibition of the youngsters' work will be staged at the centre on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9.
Project manager Abi Barker said: "It's been a big success this year. Word must have spread from last time. Every one has worked really hard and we have had a lot of success."
The project, which cost £15,000, was funded by Derwentside District Council, Northern Arts, County Durham Foundation, Greggs and Northern Rock.
As well as the exhibition, there will be a social night and barbecue, starting at 7pm on Saturday, September 8.
