Crook League - The play off for the Second Division Championship could not have been closer when Crook Spitfire Club beat Crook Surtees in the enforced deciding frame in the match played at Crook Olde Horse Shoe.
There was never anything to choose between the teams through the season and the same proved true for the play-off. However the Spitfire Club edged through to a 7-6 lead in the 14 frame match with two singles wins from Gordon Walker and Chris Raine and one each from Ronnie Rinaldi, Mark Callaghan and David Sneath.
The points for the Surtees came from Chris Bainbridge, Paul Ford, Alan Tomlinson and Howard Trotter with both doubles points going their way through John Uren with Howard Trotter and Bobby Heslop with Chris Bainbridge.
In the final frame Chris Bainbridge pulled the Surtees level when he beat John Palmer to force the extra frame. Both teams nominated their player and, in a very tense finish, Gordon Walker clinched the title for the Spitfire Club when he beat Alan Tomlinson.
