Gary Shaw was the toast of Sunderland Hospitals when he took all ten Belford House wickets for 39 runs in 20.5 overs.

Shaw, whose previous best performance was an eight wickets haul in their game with Craghead, produced career best figures as Belford House were all out for 119 after Sunderland Hospitals had posted 222 for four. Most of the runs came from John Surtees with 87 and Fred Sheriff (86).

Wearmouth continued to lead division one and they had nine wickets to spare defeating Coxhoe who were dismissed for 61 as Dhillon captured six for 34 and Hale took four wickets for 17 runs. Mattie Dench carried his bat for 29 when Wearmouth replied with 61 with the loss of one wicket.

East Rainton finished 24 runs in front of Washington when they batted first and totalled 187 all out. Neil Matthews opened the innings with 64 and Chris Yare contributed 32, while for Washington Hebron claimed five wickets for 72 runs and Lyall returned three for 28.

Thompson raised the hopes of Washington when he opened their innings and scored 53, but the introduction of Ian Kitching into the attack changed the course of the innings which ended on 163 all out. Kitching captured five wickets for 43 runs and Ball took four for 34.

Despite a useful opening innings of 46 by Ian Pratt and 26 from Mike Browbank, Plawsworth managed 122 in their home game with Medomsley for whom Robin Cunningham claimed six wickets for 56 runs and Bobby Orton returned four for 56. Walls (28) and Cunningham (29) set Medomsley on their way to a five wickets victory when they opened the innings.

Littletown made a useful 161 for six but still lost by two wickets to Simonside. Nelson (31), Smith (41) and Lewis, who carried his bat for 41, were the principal contributors in the Littletown innings and for Simonside opener Shompson played a leading role scoring 63. Simonside were also assisted by 39 extras and the pick of the Littletown attack was Glue with four wickets for 18 runs.

In division two Hunwick were all out for 104 at Washington for whom Birrell took four wickets for 25 runs and Brown five for 34. Washington were never in danger despite losing their first two batsmen quickly and Rayner (39) and Colledge with 34 not out, led their side to an easy win.

Coundon were just two runs short of 200 when they visited Belmont where they won by 67 runs. Bell opened the Coundon innings scoring 61 and there were also useful contributions of 33 from Ramratan and 32 from Timms. Peacock claimed six wickets for 66 runs and Noble had four for 69 in the Belmont attack.

When Belmont went into bat they were all out for 131 of which Noble scored 33 and Steel 49 while for Coundon Askew was in good form with the ball and he returned the creditable figures of six for 28.

Burnhope managed only 120, but made Tantobie fight all the way before losing by two wickets. Allen top scored with 42 for Burnhope and for Tantobie John Cook captured five wickets for 22 runs.

Cook also led the Tantobie reply scoring 33, but when John Spark returned figures of seven for 34 Tantobie had to work hard for victory.

Kelloe were dismissed for 86 and lost by two wickets to Newton Aycliffe. Bowery with four for 20 and Hughes three for 25 almost pulled the game out of the fire for Kelloe.

District League

Spennymoor were all out for 44 when they visited Aldbrough St John in Division A. Wood was the main destroyer of their innings as he claimed wickets for 23 runs and replying Aldbrough romped to a ten wicket victory. Jones dominated the partnership ending unbeaten on 33 and Simpson contributed 11 not out.

Heighington had 24 runs in hand of Rockliffe Park after scoring 145 for four which included an unbeaten 52 by man of the match Olney. Riley added 36 and when Rockliffe replied they were given a good send off by Krishnan with 26 and Pybus (21) but wickets quickly fell following the introduction of Howard and Olney into the attack. Howard picked up three wickets for 43 and Olney added to his batting performances when he captured five wickets for a meager 20 runs.

In Division B Haughton had 15 runs in hand when they visited Dales. Batting first the visitors posted 122 for eight with Sergeant top scoring with 30 while for Dales Simpson took three for 37 and both Murray and Hutchinson claimed two wickets apiece.

Responding Dales were given a good send off by opener Lawson who made 42 but eventually the innings ended on 107 as Edwards claimed three for 29 and Maguire took four wickets for 15 runs.
