A NEW garage and car showroom is to be built on the industrial estate in Colburn after winning planners' approval.
Five full-time and one part-time job will be created when the garage opens.
However, the project did not go through entirely unopposed.
Councillor Tony Pelton wanted a decision put off until it was clear if another new main dealership was likely to be built as a result of the revitalisation of the Catterick Garrison town centre.
However, he was overruled after planning officers pointed out the Colburn garage would concentrate mainly on repairs and servicing and not car sales.
"Colburn is also a town and this application is for development on an industrial estate so there does not seem to be a reason why it should not be accepted,'' said Councillor Jim Fryer.
Answering another query, from Leyburn Councillor Terry Jones, officers confirmed people with homes nearby had not been specifically consulted by letter.
However, a report said neither Colburn Town Council nor North Yorkshire County Council had raised any objections, although highways chiefs had recommended access on and off the site was from the Walkerville Industrial estate service road and not the main Catterick Road through Colburn.
