MYSTERY still surrounds the death of a man whose body was found by a Teesside road.
The man, who has been identified as Edward Anderson, aged "around" 54, of Captain Cook's Way, Great Ayton, was discovered on the A172 between Poole Roundabout, in Middlesbrough, and Stokesley, in the early hours of Friday.
A post mortem revealed that his severe head injuries were consistent with having been hit by a vehicle. But last night, police were still baffled as to the circumstances of his death.
Acting Detective Inspector Andy Greenwood said: "We have managed to locate quite a few people who saw him before the incident but unfortunately, we haven't been able to locate the vehicle involved.
"It may have been an innocent mistake if it was a heavy goods vehicle." Anyone with information is urged to contact police on (01642) 303134.
