A PLANNING boss has admitted that building a pavilion on a countryside site in Ripon would have an impact on visual amenity, but says if nothing is done parking problems will continue to destroy verges and cause inconvenience.
Harrogate Borough Council planning officer Dennis Harling is recommending members of Ripon area planning committee to approve an outline scheme for a new sports pavilion at Hell Wath Playing Fields, Hell Wath Lane, which runs off Whitcliffe Lane.
A recent public meeting in Ripon revealed plans for new changing rooms, an extra football pitch and disabled facilities expected to cost £260,000.
Mr Harling, whose recommendation for the sports pavilion will go before councillors in Ripon tomorrow, says the plan is to build the pavilion in the south-west corner of the playing fields. Car parking was immediately alongside Hell Weath Lane with spaces accessed directly from the lane.
Mr Harling said despite reservations he considers the proposal the only way to overcome the parking problems.
