Ambitious Shildon passed the first hurdle in this year's competition with a 6-3 away win at Yorkshire Amateurs.
New chairman Gordon Hampton has lifted the club during the summer, and has set his sights on a good run in the FA Cup and success in the ANL Second Division. However, the chairman is on holiday in Spain, so he arranged for manager Ray Gowan to ring him on his mobile from the dugout after every goal.
"He nearly feel in the swimming pool when I phoned him and told him it was 2-2," said Gowan. "I was disappointed that we won 6-3, because we're better than that, and should never have been pulled back to 2-2"
Charlie Walton and John Outhwaite in turn put Shildon into the lead, but twice the Leeds side came back.
The home side had a man sent off at 2-2, and Shildon took advantage to score further goals from Outhwaite, Walton, Nigel Bolton and Brian Fairhurst.
Shildon will now play Brigg Town, who beat Morpeth 3-1.
Brandon ran riot at Seaham Red Star, winning 7-0. Andrew Cuthbertson scored twice in the first half and Michael Cunningham (2), Andrew Burton, Darryl Smith and Steve Huggins scored further goals.
Whitley Bay also enjoyed a goal feast, thrashing Newcastle Blue Star 8-0. Ian Milbourne, Ian Chandler, Steve Cuggy (2), Brian Smith, David Chivers (2) and Gary Cook netted.
Ten-men Spennymoor scored twice in the last 20 minutes to beat Mossley 4-2 at the Brewery Field. Simon Kasonali netted a penalty and Kieron McGinlay scored a header, but Mossley twice fought back to equalise. Lee Adamson was dismissed for his second yellow after 65 minutes, but Jarrod Suddick headed Moors back in front, and Jamie Elrington fired the fourth near the end.
Easington, who had a good run last year beat Denaby 4-3. Ian Matthews scored a first half hat-trick to help them into a 4-1 lead at the break.
Guisborough enjoyed their first win of the season, a single goal win over Bacup Borough, with Steve Ritchie scoring.
Peterlee beat Castleton Gabriels 4-0, with all their goals coming in the second half. Lee Fitzgerald, Karl White and Ben Hall (2) got the goals.
Bedlington won 3-0 at Ossett Albion, scoring all their goals in the last 25 minutes. John Milner put them in front and Robbie Cockburn got a second. Gibb stormed through to blast a third near the end.
Crook Town had a good 3-3 draw at Parkgate, and now replay on Wednesday evening. They were 3-1 down but Martin Blythe and Michael Sutcliffe hit back with goals in the last 20 minutes. Paul Atkinson scored for them in the first half.
Dunston must also replay, after they drew 1-1 at Sheffield, Paul Dalton equalising with just five minutes left.
West Auckland have a tricky replay at Harrogate Town tomorrow night, after drawing 2-2 with the UniBond League side. Phil McGuire and Ray Stanger scored for West.
Marske United have a tricky midweek replay, after they drew 3-3 with Maine Road. They trailed 2-0 before Greg Booth and Gary Knight brought them level, then they needed a late own goal to set up a replay.
In the all Northern League games, Billingham Synthonia defeated Tow Law 4-2. Peter Maughan put Tow Law ahead, but Synners levelled with a Lee Flannigan strike. Tommy Marram put Synners in front, with Chris Fawcett quickly adding another. Robbie Trainor pulled a goal back, but Ben Walker made sure for Synners.
Billingham Town won 3-0 at rivals Thornaby, Paul Rowntree (2) and Robbie Hutchinson on target.
Durham City thrashed Willington 8-0 as Lee Ludlow scored a hat-trick, with Stuart Irvine (2), Edgcumbe, Michael Dawson and Gavin Mudd also on target.
Horden beat ANL Second Division colleagues Evenwood 2-0, with goals from Darren Atkinson and John Cowley.
Chester-le-Street's new manager, Stuart Sherwood, suffered a defeat in his first game in charge, when they lost 3-1 at Eccleshill and Consett conceded three goals in the last 15 minutes as they went out 4-0 at Kendal Town
Elsewhere, both Esh Winning and Northallerton both lost 3-0 while Shotton were soundly beaten 5-1 at home by Pickering, while Jarrow Roofing went out 2-0 at Skelmersdale.
