ONE of the oldest methodist churches in east Durham is preparing to celebrate its 125th birthday in style.
Hesleden Methodist Church will be marking its milestone this weekend with a gala flower festival.
The oldest church on the Durham Coast, Peterlee, Hesleden, Blackhall and Horden Circuit is planning a blooming good show to mark the event.
Members of Peterlee Flower Club are busy preparing the arrangements, which will be on show in the Church on Friday from 10am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm and on Sunday from 2pm.
The theme for the blossoming display is the Biblical quotation from John Chapter 15: "I am the vine, ye are the branches".
Each display will reflect the quotation and the overall show promises to attract visitors from all over the region.
There will also be a service held in the Church on Sunday at 3pm, which will also provide an opportunity to welcome the new minister the Reverend Ian Wales.
Organist and lifelong member of the Church, Mrs Maisie Simpson will be among those welcoming visitors during the three-day exhibition.
"We are grateful to the members of Peterlee Flower Club and we are also looking forward to welcoming all our visitors," said Mrs Simpson.
Refreshments will be available on each day.
