A CHILDREN'S charity is urging people to mark the new school year by joining it as volunteers.
The Children's Society believes September is an ideal time for parents with free time when children return to school, to volunteer in the North Ormesby shop.
Helpers are offered the chance to gain employment skills by dealing with customers or sorting and preparing clothes and household items for sale.
A shop spokesman said: "You don't need any special skills or to be a special type of person to volunteer.
"Volunteering offers a break from the home and a chance to mix with other adults."
The shops fund work with vulnerable children.
Trudi Waterhouse, retail manager for The Children's Society, said of volunteers: "Whether it's because their kids are back at school, they want to get out more or to meet new friends, it is often as rewarding for them as it is for the society."
